Chester Roman Weekend
Chester's Roman Weekend started the cities summer festival of music and events. With a living village in Grosvenor Park. Military displays and Gladiator combat in the amphitheatre. Dancing in the Town Hall Square, exhibitions and talks in the Grosvenor museum and on both days a march from St John's Church, through the rows to the Town Hall where a proclamation was made from the Town Hall steps.
In the living village there were demonstrations of Roman life including the work of the surgeon, the potter and the cobbler as well as displays of Roman army life. Refreshments were provided on the southern side of the village. The event was organised by Chester based Roman Tours Ltd.
On the Sunday some of the experience was dashed by rainfall. This set of photos of Chester Roman Weekend captures the spirit of the event.
