Chester's Rows are a unique feature of the city centre. Their origin is hotly disputed but a substantial part of what was once a more extensive doubled layered medieval shopping district survives.
Chester is the only city in the UK with a complete circuit of city walls still, more or less, intact. The walls first appeared as the perimeter fortifications for the Roman fort.
Founded in 1931 by George Mottershead. Chester Zoo is now the one of the foremost Zoos in Europe. Growing from it's original 9 acres around Oakfield House.
